Schwarber Surgery Set For This Week

The Chicago Cubs aren’t expected to reveal when, exactly, Kyle Schwarber will have surgery to repair the ligaments he tore on April 7th in a game against the Diamondbacks. This is according to multiple reports (Tribune, ESPN, CSN).

Doctors wanted to wait to give swelling in his knee time to go down before performing the surgery. According to Joe Maddon, the surgery will happen “soon.” That’s all the information Joe offered up in an attempt to shield Kyle from too much drama and attention he thinks the surgery may cause if the date is known publicly.

DSC_0105The road to recovery that follows surgery to repair a torn ACL and LCL can be long and arduous. So much that the Cubs don’t expect to see Kyle back in a uniform until at least the spring of 2017. There has been no talk of trying to get him ready to come back any earlier than that, and for good reason. With the Cubs’ intriguing depth in position players, they can afford to be careful with Kyle and proceed with caution rather then trying to rush him back into the lineup.
