Mike Tauchman Gone as Cubs Make Several Roster Moves on Non-Tender Day
We covered the Nick Madrigal decision earlier, but the Cubs made more moves on Friday. The only really surprising one, and it was something of a toss-up, was the decision to non-tender Mike Tauchman. I’m out and about, so here’s the media release.
The Chicago Cubs announced the following roster moves in conjunction with today’s deadline to tender/non-tender 2025 contracts for unsigned players on their 40-man roster.
The Cubs have agreed to terms on a 2025 contract with right-handed pitcher Julian Merryweather, catcher Matt Thaiss (THICE) and right-handed pitcher Keegan Thompson, thus avoiding salary arbitration. Terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Four arbitration-eligible players have been tendered 2025 contracts: right-handed pitcher Eli Morgan, third baseman Isaac Paredes, right-handed pitcher Nate Pearson and left-handed pitcher Justin Steele.
The Cubs have non-tendered six players: right-handed pitcher Adbert Alzolay, outfielder Brennen Davis, infielder Nick Madrigal, outfielder Mike Tauchman, right-handed pitcher Trey Wingenter and infielder Patrick Wisdom.
The Cubs 40-man roster now stands at 38.
