Alexander Canario Traded to Mets for Cash Considerations

Jesse Rogers of ESPN reported on Monday night that the Cubs have traded Alexander Canario to the New York Mets. In return for the former top prospect, Chicago received cash considerations.

Canario was designated for assignment on Friday in a move that corresponded with the addition of Justin Turner. Due to being out of options, it was the major league roster or bust for the right-handed outfielder.

Canario was acquired in July 2021 from the San Francisco Giants in the Kris Bryant trade. He appeared in 21 games with the major league team, earning 0.2 fWAR with a 135 wRC+. He’s a talented player, but there was never room for him in the crowded Wrigley outfield.

His first home run sure was memorable though!
