Cubs Bringing RHP Yency Almonte Back on Minors Deal

The Cubs are bringing righty reliever Yency Almonte back on a minor-league deal, as first reported by Jesse Rogers of ESPN. Almonte was acquired along with Michael Busch in the deal that sent Jackson Ferris and Zyhir Hope to the Dodgers. Almonte appeared in 15.2 innings for the 2024 squad, posting a 3.45 ERA with 20 strikeouts before a shoulder strain sidelined him in July.

This probably doesn’t take the sting out of seeing both prospects they gave up in MLB Pipeline’s top 100, but Almonte provides excellent depth and brings a familiar face to the pitching department.
