Chicago Cubs Lineup (4/19/25): Amaya Catching, Berti at 3B, Brown Bump Day
I pride myself in providing you with lots of info on the matchups in these lineup posts, but doing so requires a good deal of research across a number of different sites. A typical preview will utilize data from ESPN, Baseball-Reference, FanGraphs, and Baseball Savant, with additional facts and figures from other outlets as needed. It’s not easy to pull that together without power, though, and I don’t think publishing this after the game would be worthwhile.
The outage that initially impacted 1,114 local residents was largely repaired around 7:19am, which is nice. However, there are apparently only four people still without power, and I’m pretty sure it’s just my side of the cul-de-sac. My latest text from Duke Energy says we can expect to re-enter the modern age by 4pm. Great.
What’s wild is that we were totally unaffected by a pair of tornadoes that went through town two weeks ago. Now we get blacked out by a thunderstorm that was apparently so localized that only a small portion of the community was impacted. Oh well, first world problems.
No real surprises in the lineup, save perhaps for Carson Kelly getting the day off after another monster performance. But the catching position has been a balanced split so far, and having days off might be a key to Kelly’s incredible performance. He’s currently tied for fourth in MLB with 1.4 fWAR, just one-tenth of a point ahead of two of his outfield teammates.
Here’s Saturday’s lineup…
Ian Happ – LF
Kyle Tucker – RF
Seiya Suzuki – DH
Michael Busch – 1B
Dansby Swanson – SS
Nico Hoerner – 2B
Pete Crow-Armstrong – CF
Miguel Amaya – C
Jon Berti – 3B
Ben Brown is on the bump looking to carry over the momentum from his last start. He’ll need to be efficient in this one, and maybe he’ll have to wear it if he isn’t, because the bullpen isn’t exactly fresh.
The Cubs are facing Zac Gallen for the second time and could use another game like that one. The righty lasted only four innings and gave up four runs on four hits and four walks with four strikeouts. Pretty strong symmetry, huh?
What I’d like is for the Cubs to hang a big crooked number and then not poop the bed. Too much to ask? We’ll find out soon because first pitch is at 1:20pm CT on Marquee and 670 The Score.
