Cubs Promote Drew Pomeranz, Option Gavin Hollowell
The Cubs made a series of roster moves on Wednesday, including including the addition of Nicky Lopez, which was followed by Gage Workman being designated for assignment.
Drew Pomeranz was acquired from the Mariners on Monday for Cash Considerations, giving Craig Counsell another left-handed arm to use out of the bullpen. He reported to Wrigley Field on Tuesday and is now officially on the roster.
To clear room on the 40-man roster, Justin Steele was transferred to the 60-day IL. Steele recently underwent elbow surgery and will be out for the entirety of the 2025 season.

Lastly, Gavin Hollowell was demoted to AAA Iowa. Hollowell made his season debut on Tuesday night, throwing two perfect innings in relief.

Hollowell only being recalled for one game isn’t surprising, but his strong performance is sure to earn him another shot when the opportunity arises.
