Matt Shaw Scratched from Sunday’s Lineup, Promotion Pending?
Matt Shaw is MIA from the Iowa Cubs lineup on Sunday, which could mean he’s heading to MIA. That would be Miami International Airport, where the Cubs will be heading later tonight. We’ve been trying to manifest a promotion for a little while now and it might actually be happening, as Shaw continues to mash while the revolving door at third base in Chicago has yet to produce much value.

If Shaw is promoted, the Cubs will have to make a move to accommodate him. Justin Turner is stuck at -0.3 fWAR, but he’s got too much pedigree and veteran presence to cut loose just yet. Jon Berti has been only slightly better on the whole and his recent play has left a lot to be desired; Nicky Lopez has a strong glove even if he offers little to nothing offensively. Though Vidal Bruján has started the last two games at third and just picked up a double on Saturday, it almost feels like his extra playing time is a send-off of sorts.
We’ll find out soon enough what’s happening with Shaw and the rest of the roster.
