Brooks Kriske will replace Jordan Wicks in the Cubs’ bullpen, giving Craig Counsell another fresh arm to use at Yankee Stadium this weekend.
Kriske has made one appearance this season, throwing two innings of scoreless ball against the Reds in late May. He has a 3.13 ERA with the Iowa Cubs, striking out 52 batters in only 31.2 innings.
After a rough game against the Yankees on Friday night, Wicks will return to Iowa until starting pitching help is needed again. His first appearance during this stint with the big league team was fantastic, going 3.1 innings without giving up a run against the Cardinals. Friday was a different story, as Wicks allowed 6 earned runs in three innings.
It’s been a disappointing year for the southpaw in Chicago, but injuries have definitely played a part in his lack of success. With the All-Star break coming up, sending him down to get more rest is the right thing to do.
