All-Star Game Score and Recap (7/15/25): NL 7, AL 6 – Schwarber Becomes Hero in HR Swing-Off

The stars from both leagues got together in the 95th annual All-Star Game at Truist Park in Atlanta on Tuesday. The National League raced ahead before the American League stormed back to even the score and force a first-ever home run swing-off to determine the winner.

The first three hitters of the game for the NL reached base against Tigers ace Tarik Skubal in the bottom of the 1st. Ketel Marte of the Diamondbacks hit a double down the line to score two and put the home team ahead 2-0.

The pitching was great after that until the NL got to the Royals’ Kris Bubic in the bottom of the 6th. Mets slugger Pete Alonso hit a three-run homer off Bubic, and Arizona outfielder Corbin Carroll added a solo shot against Detroit reliever Casey Mize later in the frame to make it a 6-0 lead.

Athletics DH Brent Rooker took Giants reliever Randy Rodriguez deep for a three-run shot that got the AL back into the game in the 7th. Kansas City shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. had an RBI groundout later in the inning to make it a 6-4 contest.

Witt doubled home a run against Robert Suárez of the Padres in the top of the 9th and came around to score the tying run when Cleveland’s Steven Kwan beat out an infield single against Mets closer Edwin Díaz. With the game even after nine, it came down to a home run derby.

The hero of the derby turned out to be old friend and current Phillies DH Kyle Schwarber, who homered on all three of his swings to give the NL a rare victory. (Box score)

Key Moment

Schwarber went second out of the NL’s three assigned mashers and effectively put the game on ice by hitting three homers. His efforts earned him MVP honors, which might make up for having the Home Run Derby robbed from him in 2018.
