Chicago Cubs @ Milwaukee Brewers – Series Preview (July 28-30): Overview, Game and Broadcast Info, Starting Pitchers, W2W4

The Cubs (62-43) won two out of three from the White Sox at Rate Field after dropping their last series to the Royals at Wrigley Field. That pair of victories got them back into a tie for first place in the National League Central with the Brewers, who just so happen to be their next opponent for three games starting Monday at American Family Field.

As Cubs fans are well aware, Milwaukee (62-43) has been on an incredible roll, going 13-3 in their last 16 games to catch up with the North Siders in the standings. The Brew Crew’s surge has been fueled by a pitching staff that has produced a 3.58 team ERA that is fourth best in baseball.

The Brewers’ starting rotation got a major boost from the return of Brandon Woodruff from Tommy John surgery and the call-up of rookie phenom Jacob Misiorowski in June. The starters’ 3.33 ERA trails only the Rangers for best in baseball. The bullpen has been strong as well with hard-throwing closer Trevor Megill piling up 23 saves so far in 2025.

Milwaukee has not been nearly as effective on offense with a team OPS of .708 which ranks 19th in baseball. It’s a lineup that can be best described as decidedly average without a single regular starter above an .800 OPS. Outfielder Jackson Chourio has been very hot lately and leads the team with 17 homers.

Christian Yelich is still a threat even with his diminished power, and the always pesky Sal Frelick is back after a brief stint on the injured list. The Brewers aren’t going to outscore many people, but they don’t have to with the pitching they possess.

The Cubs have won three of the first five games of the season series so far in 2025, but there are eight more matchups remaining on the schedule between these two teams. The outcome of those contests will go a long way toward determining who will win the division.

It’s certainly not a complete disaster if Chicago doesn’t come out on top in this set, as there will still be 54 games to go once it wraps up. That being said, taking a series on the road from Milwaukee would put Craig Counsell‘s squad in a very good position heading down the stretch.

No matter what happens, it’s going to be exciting to see a playoff atmosphere at Wrigley North. Let’s see if the Cubs can have some fun at their home away from home.
