Cubs Roster Moves: Hodge to 60-Day IL, Lopez Selected, Kingery Optioned

The Cubs have not made any official announcements as of this writing, but a series of moves has been reported and/or published on the MLB transactions page. None of this is surprising, as it was all widely assumed once the team traded for Nicky Lopez. His contract has been selected, with the 40-man roster space created by placing Porter Hodge on the 60-day IL following UCL reconstruction surgery. Scott Kingery has been optioned to Triple-A Iowa, clearing space for Lopez on the active roster.

It’s pretty much a lateral move, with Lopez bringing better defense to the table in what figures to be a very limited role. This will be something like his 43rd stint with the team in the last two years, so he’s very familiar with Craig Counsell and a number of his new/old teammates already.
