Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (6/6/26): Cubs 3, Giants 2 F/10 – PCA’s Heroics Lead to Victory

The Cubs rallied in their final at-bat for the second time in three days to grab an extra-innings victory over the Giants at Wrigley Field Saturday afternoon. Two swings of the bat by Pete Crow-Armstrong kept the home team in the game long enough to pull it out in the 10th.

Ben Brown was on the mound for the North Siders and was brilliant yet again, holding San Francisco scoreless through five frames. Caleb Thielbar replaced Brown with one out in the top of the 6th and immediately gave up a solo homer to Rafael Devers that gave the road team a 1-0 lead.

Crow-Armstrong got that run back in the bottom of the inning when he hit a home run off of starter Landen Roupp. That is where the score remained until the top of the 9th when Matt Chapman hit a sacrifice fly off of Daniel Palencia that put the Giants ahead 2-1.

Chicago was down to their final out in the bottom of the 9th before PCA came up big again with a second home run against closer Keaton Winn to tie the game. After San Francisco failed to score in the top of the 10th, Michael Busch opened up the bottom half with a game-winning RBI single to score the Manfred Man for a 3-2 victory. (Box score)

Key Moment

Ryan Rolison pitched around a walk in the top of the 10th to keep the Giants from scoring and giving the Cubs a chance to walk it off in the bottom of the inning.

Why the Cubs Won

An outstanding starting pitching effort and PCA playing like a star combined for the win.

Stats That Matter

  • Brown was terrific and only came out because he was up to 87 pitches: 5.1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 5 K, and 1 BB.
  • PCA had four hits and is really starting to catch fire.
  • Busch had two more knocks and is hanging in decently against lefties.

Bottom Line

Wins are not coming easily for the Cubs right now, and any they can get feel huge. There is no doubt at this point that Brown is the ace they have badly needed. Crow-Armstrong can carry the team if he gets really hot, which would be a huge development as almost no one else is stepping up.

On Deck

The rubber match of the series is Sunday night at 7:30pm CT. Jameson Taillon takes the bump against Trevor McDonald in a game airing on NBC with a radio feed on The Score.
