PCA Earns First NL Player of the Week Nod
I didn’t put this out last night because it seemed redundant following a piece about how Pete Crow-Armstrong has been the best player in the game over the last two weeks or so, but this award bears mentioning. The center fielder batted .440 with a 1.041 OPS and four home runs over six games to earn the first NL Player of the Week nod of his career.
That run has extended an active 12-game hitting streak over which he’s batting .392 with a 236 wRC+ and a 1.201 OPS. He also had a walk-off hit in the Cubs’ only win against the A’s and hit two game-tying homers in their only win over the Giants. Not bad when you combine it with the best defense in the game.
Now PCA gets to put his hot stretch to the test in Denver, where he made his MLB debut late in the 2023 season. He went hitless in eight plate appearances over three games, but something tells me he’ll put up better numbers this time.
