Cubs Reportedly Acquire RHP Jayden Murray from Astros
As first reported by Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston, the Cubs have acquired right-handed reliever Jayden Murray from the Astros in exchange for minor-league first baseman Cameron Cisneros. Murray was drafted by the Rays in 2019 out of Dixie State and landed a $3,000 signing bonus, then was traded to the Astros in 2022. His results have been something of a mixed bag, but he’s pitched well enough to get a couple cups of coffee.
Over 25 MLB innings in 17 appearances, Murray has a 4.68 ERA with 16 strikeouts, 10 walks, and 29 hits allowed. He’s got a 96 mph fastball with an 81 mph sweeper, then there’s a sinker, change, and cutter that aren’t thrown all that often. This is another depth move to add to a staff that has been decimated by injuries and poor performance, so I wouldn’t read too much into it.
Cisneros was a 14th-round pick out of East Tennessee State in 2024 and has hit really well in the minors, but the Cubs don’t have much of a need at first base.
