Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (6/24/26, Game 2): Cubs 10, Mets 5 – Cubs Complete DH Sweep of Sloppy Mets

After putting up 10 runs in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader at Citi Field, the Cubs repeated the feat with 10 more in the nightcap. The Mets provided them with a lot of help, committing a total of six errors to leave the door wide open for the road squad to complete a sweep of the twin-bill and win the series.

Chicago struck first against Sean Manaea with an RBI double by Carson Kelly in the top of the 2nd. Shōta Imanaga had more problems with the home run ball in the bottom of the frame, surrendering a solo shot to Francisco Alvarez and a two-run jack to A.J. Ewing that gave New York a 3-1 advantage.

Pedro Ramirez and Dansby Swanson had back-to-back RBI singles in the top of the 4th to even the score. Pete Crow-Armstrong then bunted the ball over the drawn-in third baseman for a go-ahead hit that put the North Siders ahead 4-3.

Imanaga got victimized again in the bottom of the inning when Mark Vientos had a game-tying home run. Swanson put the Cubs in front for good with an RBI triple against Brooks Raley, then scored on a Matt Shaw grounder for a 6-4 lead in the 6th.

Bo Bichette homered off reliever Gavin Hollowell in the bottom of the frame to cut the Metropolitans’ deficit to 6-5. Chicago took advantage of a couple more errors to score one in the 7th and three more in the 8th. Ramirez and Swanson singled home the three runs in the latter inning as they completed the 10-5 win. Key Moment

The Cubs added on in the late innings to make sure the bullpen was not under too much stress.

Why the Cubs Won

They took advantage of the many, many mistakes that the Mets made in this game.

Stats That Matter

  • Imanaga limited the damage from his home runs: 5.1 IP, 4 R, 4 H, 4 K, and 1 BB.
  • Swanson had three more hits and four more RBI, giving him 11 for the day and 15 in the series.
  • Ramirez also had three hits, two RBI, and scored four runs.
  • Nico Hoerner knocked three doubles and scored each time.

Bottom Line

Chicago’s bats are absolutely red hot at the moment, having scored nine runs or more in four of the last five games. It was badly needed with how shaky the entire pitching staff is right now. Swanson is having one of the greatest four-game stretches I can ever remember. It’s almost like he is making up for the last month and a half of missing production in a week.

On Deck

The Cubs go for the season sweep of the Mets Thursday night at 6:10pm CT. Matthew Boyd returns to take on Freddy Peralta in a game available on Marquee with a radio broadcast on The Score.
