Dodgers Land Tarik Skubal for 3 Prospects, Including Zyhir Hope

Well, at least it wasn’t the Brewers. News broke late Saturday night that the Dodgers have acquired lefty Tarik Skubal in exchange for three prospects. Outfielder Zyhir Hope, who went to LA as part of the return for Michael Busch, was No. 5 in the Dodgers’ system and No. 25 overall. Righties River Ryan (7/68) and Brady Smith (17) were also in the deal. That’s two top-100 prospects, which is a massive haul given how rarely those types of players are moved at the deadline.

Hope figures to slot in right behind Max Clark once the Tigers’ rankings are updated, and he’ll move to No. 1 when Clark graduates. Detroit got a very nice haul for their rental, one the Cubs were not going to be able to match. For the sake of comparison, they’d have had to include Josiah Hartshorn, Jefferson Rojas, and Jostin Florentino to have a package that was even close to comparable.

Now it’s up to Jed Hoyer to bring in Freddy Peralta and/or whoever else he believes will make the Cubs a dangerous playoff team.
