Cubs Announce Hiring of Former Investment Banker Kenta Nomoto as Director of Scouting

It would have been unthinkable 20 years ago to see investment banking and a degree from Harvard Business School as a pathway to an MLB front office, but times have changed. See the media release below for more details on the Cubs’ latest moves in the scouting department.

The Chicago Cubs today announced the hiring of Kenta Nomoto as director of scouting operations and the promotion of Michael Meagher to coordinator, amateur scouting.

Nomoto will report to the VP of Scouting and assist in leading department efforts both in the office and out in the field, drive innovation and support draft decision-making. He joined the team in June after graduating from Harvard Business School. Prior to that he served as an investment banking analyst for RBC Capital Markets and a venture capital associate manager for Danone Ventures.

Nomoto graduated from the University of Michigan with high distinction in Business Administration in 2018 and attended Phillips Academy – Andover (Andover, Mass.) where he was a member of the varsity baseball team.

Meagher will lead both the pre-draft and off-season scouting workouts conducted by the amateur scouting department and play an integral role in supporting both day-to-day operations as well as draft decision-making. He previously served as an assistant, amateur scouting with the Cubs since 2024.

A Chicago native, Meagher is a 2024 graduate of Northwestern University where he graduated with a major in Economics and minors in Spanish and Business Institutions. While in school, Meagher was the student manager for the Northwestern baseball team and held internships for the Cubs in both 2022 and 2023.
